A multi-purpose community resource.

A multi-purpose community resource.

The Oakwood Road Community Center serves the needs of the gatherings of the CityChurch of Ames-Des Moines, houses the offices of BILD International, and is a meeting place for multiple community events throughout the year.

About the Community Center

The Oakwood Road Community Center is stewarded by the CityChurch of Ames-Des Moines. Its core functions are serving as a weekly gathering place for the CityChurch of Ames-Des Moines and the office space for the staff of BILD International.

A Community Resource

We view the community center as a resource to the greater Ames community.  Its spaces are intentionally multi-functional and are used regularly throughout the year for weddings, community meetings, city meetings, etc… If you have an event that you would like to hold at the community center, please contact us to check on availability.  It would be our pleasure to hold your event.

Design

The design of the community center is intended to reflect our belief that the church should impact culture and society while being a part of it.  Therefore, we sought to design and construct a facility that would meet our needs and be a resource to the greater Ames community.

The community center was designed by Michael Underhill, Laura J. Miller, and David Heymann and was constructed in 2005.

The first design award given to the project was the 1994 Progressive Architecture Award, from the architecture publication Progressive Architecture.
